Karate Sparring

Karate SparringKarate sparring is an integral part of the practice of this martial art. It is known as kumite. The other two important elements are known as kata and kihon. Kata describes choreographed movements while kihon describes basic techniques.

Both kata and kihon are put to use in karate sparring. Kumite involves the use of an opponent. This is primarily valued for two different things. The first is that it can help an individual develop particular combative techniques or skills. The second is as a part of a karate competition.

Karate sparring falls under many different classifications. For instance, beginners may practice gohon kumite. This is a basic level of practicing techniques with specific roles given. On the other hand, jiyu kumite is a free and advanced form of sparring which is more reflective of actual combat.
